ROSATOM’s scientists justify safety of the separate parts of the MBIR Reactor

Equipment design and safety justification go hand in hand with the reactor’s construction in Dimitrovgrad.

The scientists of Leypunsky Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (IPPE), State Scientific Centre, ROSATOM Scientific Division, acting as main scientific organization of the Multipurpose Fast Neutron Research Reactor (MBIR) completed an important testing of its structural elements.

The obtained results allow starting the production of fuel elements for a future reactor. The MBIR Reactor will become the largest research reactor in operation (150 MWt) on the planet. In 2024, the scientists of Research Institute of Nuclear Reactors (RIAR), State Scientific Centre, ROSATOM Scientific Division, are going to put fuel elements into production.

“The analyses of experimental and stand testing of rupture discs gave a positive result for the safety justification”, commented Veronika Dolgikh, the head of the IPPE project office.
